Eduardo Marques, a SMILES researcher, gave an invited talk entitled “Programming (languages for) networked vehicle systems” at the Marine UAS Summer School, which took place at Instituto Superior Técnico.
Vítor Enes Duarte, a SMILES researcher, defended his master’s thesis last week and received a grade of 18. With the thesis “Efficient Synchronization of State-based CRDTs”, aimed to reduce the amount of information needed to synchronize CRDTs, data structures that can be replicated across multiple computers in a network. With this study, the author has developed techniques that can be easily applied to existing delta-state-based implementations of CRDTs in industry, such as in Akka, a toolkit for building highly concurrent,…
The thesis entitled “A maturidade do mercado através da evolução tecnológica: o caso dos Smartwatches”, authored by Simão Martins Almeida, and the thesis entitled “Implementação de Business Intelligence em Smart connected products com base em Internet of Things”, authored by Luís Eduardo Santos Costa Nogueira, were developed as part of SMILES project, in particular, as part the Artifitial Intelligence and Decision Support (LIADD), one of our partners.
SMILES researchers published an article entitled “Delta state replicated data types” in Elsevier Journal of Parallel and Distributed Computing (JPDC), an A* rated journal. Click here to see more information.
The research in IoT under SMILES gets a new boost with the start of H2020 project LightKone. This project focuses on new tools for computing at the edge and integrating data centre and edge computations. INESC TEC is a core participant and most team members are also pursing research in SMILES.
